Start the day with a stupid, dumb little joke?
Someone just called my phone, sneezed and then hung up.
I’m getting sick and tired of all these cold callers…
Maybe follow it up with some stupid pictures?
Aaaaand finally and least funny-ly, maybe close out with something completely irrelevant that I found interesting or inspirational from the previous day?
Happy Wednesday!
I’ve been listening to these sermons on Apple Podcasts, and they’ve been incredible. They’re applicable to everything. This one is called “The Danger of Wealth,” and I intentionally stopped it halfway through….. because it’s so good and so much information.
I keep re-listening to them and meaning to write stuff about them, but there’s so much information and insights packed into each one. It’s crazy.
One concept from this sermon is that: if a person is chasing after wealth, they will always be chasing. It’s an insatiable quest, because you will always want more.
John D. Rockefeller, the founder of the Standard Oil Company, the first billionaire of the United States of America and once the richest man on Earth was asked by a reporter, “How much money is enough?” He calmly replied, “Just a little bit more”.
And, as we get richer, the wealth can remove happiness, fulfillment, etc. from our lives.
One example, is that with more riches, people tend to spend more. Often, this looks like buying a new house… and this new house might have a nice gate… and a long driveway… and a multi-car garage.
With riches, you can isolate yourself away from all of your neighbors and day-to-day interactions… which is one thing I’ve noticed that I derive so much joy from each day. Where I live, we have smaller houses that are right next to each other, because we don’t have much, if any, land. And we don’t have air conditioning, so many people leave their doors open…
Because of this, I talk to a few of my neighbors organically many times a day. Even seeing familiar faces when I walk around does something in giving me some kind of sense of community.
I know this is a pretty random concept, but it just stuck out as something different.
Listen to this one, seriously, it’s good and too much for me to explain haha.
Listen to this!
Have a great day!
